Creating Connections With Our Community
The Crime Prevention Division was established by Chief McConnell in 2011 to meet the demand for such a program by our growing city. Since then, our outreach efforts have taken us into partnerships with area school districts, and allowed us to create networking opportunities with business owners and resource service providers.

Programs
D.A.R.E.
This year millions of school children around the world will benefit from D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), the highly acclaimed program that gives kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence.
D.A.R.E. was founded in 1983 in Los Angeles and has proven so successful that it is now being implemented in 75 percent of our nation’s school districts and in more than 52 countries around the world.
D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.
Crime Prevention Events
Our Community Resource Officers make regular appearances at schools and community events to educate our children and the public on the importance of school safety, bully prevention, as well as a providing support to many local and national charity organizations. DEA Prescription Take-Back Events
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. These events are typically scheduled quarterly by the DEA. Take-Back events are featured in our "Events" tab at the top of this page.
Deterra Drug Disposal Pouches
The patented Deterra® System is a scientifically proven product, powered by proprietary MAT12® Molecular Adsorption Technology. In a simple 3-step process, a user can deactivate drugs, thereby preventing drug misuse and protecting the environment.
Deterra drug disposal pouches are available by request at the front window at our police station and are available at no cost.
Citizen's Academy
It happens all the time... A police car drives by and the necks of the people nearly snap as they try to catch a glimpse of where the cruiser is going or to see if an accident happened.
This is your chance to get closer to the action. Learn what it takes to be a police officer by attending the citizen police academy where you will learn the different aspects of the jobs of a police officer.
Don’t miss your chance to be a part of the next Citizen’s Police Academy.
During our 8 week program, you’ll learn the inner workings of your police department and you will get to operate real police equipment.
From Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigations, Officer Resources, Arrest Procedures and Communications. Also, if you’ve ever wondered how to do a traffic stop, that will be covered too.
